Attention/Parade Rest
The first step when falling in.
The position of attention can be achieved by keeping your head erect, your eyes looking straight ahead, chin up, shoulders back, with your fingers at a slight curl and your thumbs along the seams of your pants. Your legs should be straight along with your back and your heels should be together in a 45-degree angle.
When “Parade Rest” is called you transition by keeping your right foot planted and moving your left foot to about shoulder length. Your hands will go to your back and they will clasp right over let, straightened out and thumbs up.
Left Face
Left face is called in the Position of Attention.
Keeping your heels together, you will pivot on the ball of your left foot, pushing with your right toes. At the end of the turn, you will snap your heel back to connect with the left and resume the Position of Attention.
Right Face
Right Face is called in the Position of Attention.
Keeping your heels together, you will pivot on the ball of your right foot, pushing with your left toes, At the end of the turn, you will snap your heel back to connect with the left and resume the Position of Attention.
About Face
About Face is called in the Position of Attention.
Begin by lifting your right foot and placing the toe of your right shoe behind the heel of your left. Push with your right toe 180-degees to the right and then plant your right foot down at the usual 45-degree angle and resume the Position of Attention.
Forward, March
Forward, March is called in the Position of Attention.
To begin marching, Forward, March is called. You stay in the Position of Attention and begin walking starting with your left foot.
When marching, remember to stay in step with who is calling it and to stay aligned with the person to your right. Your fingers should stay curled when marching and arm swinging should not be too excessive.
Dress Right, Dress
Dress Right, Dress is called in the Position of Attention.
When Dress Right, Dress is called you will perform a different action based upon where you are within a platoon.
If you are on the rightmost side, meaning there is no one to your right, you will continue looking forward and put out your left arm to shoulder-length. You will not move unless told and those to your left must adjust to your arm-length.
If you are in the center, and there is a person to both your left and right, you will still put your left arm out, but you will also turn your head to the right to look for the hand on our shoulder and adjust your position accordingly.
If you are on the leftmost side, meaning there is no one to your left, you will only turn your head to the right to adjust yourself, but not put out your arm.
When “Ready Front” is called, you will resume the Position of Attention.
Column Right, March
While marching, Column Right will be called but not acted upon until the “March” command, called on the right foot.
Squad 1, the rightmost squad, will take one extra step with the left foot after the call and then immediately pivot 90-degrees.
Squad 2, in the center, will do much the same as Squad 1, but they will only take two steps in between the pivots.
Squad 3, the leftmost squad, will begin by taking an extra step with the left foot and then pivoting on it 45-degrees so that the next step taken by the right foot is going diagonally. Three more steps will be taken before pivoting again, making it four steps total.
After the final pivot, begin half-stepping so that the other squads may catch up.
Column Left, March
While marching, Column Left will be called but not acted upon until the “March” command, called on the left foot.
Squad 1, the rightmost squad, will begin by taking an extra step with the right foot and then pivoting on it 45-degrees so that the next step taken by the left foot is going diagonally. Three more steps will be taken before pivoting again, making it four steps total.
Squad 2, in the center, will do much the same as Squad 1, but they will only take two steps in between the pivots.
Squad 3, the leftmost squad, will take one extra step with the right foot after the call and then immediately pivot 90-degrees.
After the final pivot, begin half-stepping so that the other squads may catch up.
Left, Flank
While marching, Left, Flank will be called but not acted upon until the “Flank” command, called on the left foot.
Every squad will do the same thing at the same time. Taking an extra step with the right foot, everyone will pivot on their right foot turning 90-degrees to the left and then resume marching. No half-steps are taken with a Flank.
Right, Flank
While marching, Right, Flank will be called but not acted upon until the “Flank” command, called on the Right foot.
Every squad will do the same thing at the same time. Taking an extra step with the left foot, everyone will pivot on their left foot turning 90-degrees to the right and then resume marching. No half-steps are taken with a Flank.
Right Oblique, March
While marching, Right Oblique will be called but not acted upon until the “March” command, called on the right foot.
Every squad will do the same thing at the same time. Taking an extra step with the left foot, everyone will pivot on their left foot turning 45-degrees to the right and then resume marching. No half-steps are taken with an Oblique.
Left Oblique, March
While marching, Left Oblique will be called but not acted upon until the “March” command, called on the left foot.
Every squad will do the same thing at the same time. Taking an extra step with the right foot, everyone will pivot on their right foot turning 45-degrees to the left and then resume marching. No half-steps are taken with an Oblique.
To the Rear, March
While marching, “To the Rear” is called but not acted upon until the “March” command, called on the right foot.
Start by taking an extra step with the left foot, and then, keeping both feet where they are, turn 180-degrees to the right so that your left foot is now in the back and your right is leading. Take the next step with your left foot and continue marching as normal.
Change Step, March
While marching, “Change Step” is called but not acted upon until the “March” command, called on the right foot.
Start by taking an extra step with your left foot, then do a small skip keeping your left foot in front. Continue marching as normal after performing the movement.
Eyes, Right
While marching, “Eyes” will be called but not acted upon until the command “Right,” called on the right foot.
Upon hearing “Right,” everyone in the middle and left squad will turn their head to the right while continuing to march. The rightmost squad will not do anything.
When the command “Ready, Front” is called, everyone turns their head to look forward again.
